The objective of this exercise was to produce a complex spatial assembly following a narrative thread by synthesizing the concepts of spatial organization, passage, structure and threshold.

As a starting point for my concept, I imagined a massive block from which material was subtracted. My intention was to use staircases to create a vertical structure allowing the ascent while playing with principles of continuity and discontinuity, expressing the relationship between the positive and negative spaces created by the removal of the material.

In terms of the distinct regions, the interior space, the two converging exterior walls, and the upper surface represent the massive components of the structure, all connected through physical links and additional stairways.

Inside, one can observe the complexity of the overlapping internal structures, connecting the different landings and creating a sense of lightness. In contrast, the two opaque and bare exterior walls suggest an abrupt carving into the mass.

The project taught me the importance of maintaining accurate ratios and proportions in model construction. Additionally, I learned the value of effective project planning, ensuring ample time for unforeseen challenges like reinforcing structures and managing material limitations.
